Rev. Dunnington was born and raised in the Anacostia community of Washington, DC.  In 1970, he graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Psychology and Sociology.  He received a Masters of Divinity degree from Garrett Theological Seminary, in Evanston, IL in 1973, with a concentration in Pastoral Care and Counseling.  During seminary, he served as the “Seminarian in Residence” at the Trinity Church of the North Shore United Methodist in Wilmette, IL.  Here he gained a deep appreciation for the importance of style and form for congregational worship.  His love, study, and emphasis on the worship experience has continued throughout his ministry.

Over the last 31 years, Rev. Dunnington has served churches in small towns, suburban, and city settings with appointments to Linthicum Heights, Immanuel of Brooklyn and Curtis Bay in Baltimore, Emmanuel in Catonsville, and Havre de Grace.  For the last 10 years, he has served the 800-member congregation of Hiss UMC in Parkville.  Throughout these varied experiences, Rev. Dunnington has participated on many conference committees and is currently a member of the Conference Board of Ordained Ministry.  Rev. Dunnington has also been an active participant in many ecumenical initiatives in the communities where he has served.  In April of this year, Rev. Dunnington and his wife, Sandy, will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary.

Sandy was born and raised in Smithsburg, MD and still has many family members in the Hagerstown area.  Sandy is a registered nurse who holds bachelors and masters degrees in nursing and a PhD in family health.  She has been a nurse educator for many years and currently is the Chairperson of the Department of Nursing at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland in Baltimore.  Sandy has interests in many areas of church life, but has especially valued her service to the Sunday school programs as well as many aspects of Christian Education.

Associate Pastor - Katherine Heflin

revheflin@calvaryumc.org

Katherine is from Central Indiana where she grew up on a 100 acre beef cattle and grain farm. She is the oldest of six children, three boys and three girls. She grew up going to the Methodist/United Methodist Church in the small town near her home.

Katherine moved out to the DC area in October of 1983 and has lived on the East Coast ever since. She has served at churches in north central Baltimore County as a part of the Baltimore North District and most recently in Camp Springs, MD, a part of the Washington East District. She has one daughter, Mary, who is 18.

While visiting her parents, she learned that her father’s side of the family originally lived around Frederick. She knew that being here felt like home right away, but little did she know this area was already a part of her! She looks forward to researching her family roots some more.
